Brett’s Picks
Brett Costello, one of our uber-students at the Wine School, shot me this not about some great wine deals in the PLCB wine shops. With his permission, I have posted his email here:
Hey guys!
As a man of limited means, I am always looking to get the best deal … especially when it comes to stocking my wine room. Well I was just on the PLCB website and saw what I think are two deal that are too good to pass up.
First: Vina Cobos Bramare Malbec Marchiori Vineyard 2004 for $20. I think I paid close to $50 for a couple of these last year! This is a fantastic bottle at this price … cheapest price on Wine-Searcher is $42.50!
Second: Oriel L’Exception (St. Emilion) 2002 for $25. Next lowest price on Wine-Searcher is $65! Okay, so 2002 was not the best vintage, but this bottle should still wow you at this price.
For all of you winos trying to get some bang for your buck in these economically challenging times, go out and get some of these and drink a glass or two (or three) next time you check your 401K balance. It’ll not only take the edge off the severe headache pain, it’ll lift your heart up out of your stomach knowing that you can still drink well on your less than expected retirement budget.

Here is the 93 Pts Robert Parker review of this wine:
This is a wine of extraordinary elegance, precision, and pure, concentrated fruit. The complex aromas include the entire blueberry/blackberry fruit spectrum as well as scents of violets (or is it acacia flowers?)… beautifully textured, extremely pure, medium-bodied, elegant effort handsomely wrapped in subtle toasty oak. 90-93 pts.
